IU Alumna’s Visionary Program Boosts Student Success in Reading & Math
We proudly celebrate IU alumna Lillian Barkes, founder of Listen to Our Future, for her inspiring work improving reading and math outcomes for young students. Since launching in 2021, her organization has served 2,200+ students, employed 250 tutors, and opened a dedicated facility with a mini library, STEM makerspace, and family resources. Recently honored with the Transformational Alumni Award, Barkes continues to embody the IU SoE spirit of leadership and service—empowering children to dream bigger and believe in their potential.

IPS chose to spotlight Mr. Jordan Leonard!
Jordan is a licensed physical education teacher with a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Indianapolis. He recently completed his master’s degree in Urban Education Leadership here at the School of Education and is a licensed building-level administrator.

‘TikTok Teacher’ inspires Spanish Immersion students to become educators
Ms. Camarasa is a current student in our Masters in Urban Education Leadership program.
Congratulations to Ms. Camarasa! Ms. Camarasa goes by Sita and has been teaching in the Spanish Immersion Program in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township for 20 years. Recently her students started calling her the “TikTok Teacher.”

Dr. Roberto Swazo will be the Keynote Speaker at this prestigious conference!
Congratulations to Dr. Swazo! He is currently completing a new book under contract with Cognella Publishing (California), titled The Ethical Mindset: Strengthening Self-Awareness, Cultural Competence, and Professional Integrity, scheduled for release in Fall 2025.
